Secularization and Post-modernity
Secularization and Post-modernity What does secular and post-modernism mean?
The term post-secular roughly translates to fabricating belief (particularly religious) into newfangled perceptions or practices.
Most of the contemporary and modernized Western civilizations consider themselves to be strictly secular societies. They believe in the notion that religion and religious beliefs are highly personal matters and whatever faith any individual chooses to adhere to should not be questioned by any other personage as this is a violation of their exclusive and claimed boundaries. But there is no denying that no matter how much we want to keep our religious activities and faith privy they still inter-mutually affect the dynamics and rituals of the society as well as all of its actions, basically, their influence tends to go beyond a personal sphere. The expression “post-secular” has been coined as a comprehensive term that elaborately describes and combines religion with politics, communal normative society, cultivation of a constructive cultural potency.
This concept entirely encompasses both religious concepts and entities choosing to adhere to a non-religious stance, ensuring that no voice or choice of regimen is demeaned or endangered in a free-will state. While a huge population in the West delightfully accepts this term and tends to concur it, there is still a huge number of people out there who discourage the concept of secularism entirely. This is so because they suggest that the concept of secularism is ambiguous and obscure.
Some conservative religious societies that are too possessive of their belief denounce this concept as they believe that secularism is a national threat and by acknowledging atheism it tends to disrespect and mock the existence of God as well as their faith.
The term post-secular has been described in different ways by different communities based on their interpretation. To some, it is just a social construct that defines the absence of religion in any era or indicates the gravity of the consequences (as per the comprehension of certain communities)that occur after intermixing theism with truancy of religious belief.
Is post-secularism a contradictory rhetoric disquisition? or just another deconstructive appraisal between secularism and religious entities to add more clout constituency to the literature to derive sanctioned controversies in media and among the society by agenda-driven propagandas.
Concepts associated with postmodernism
Post-modernism to a major extent disregards religious concepts and practices entirely. For any person or society claiming to be associated with post-modernism, there is no set of concrete or definite values that they claim to follow or perpetuate. There are no unrestricted facts affiliated with their concepts either. Mostly its atheism and reluctance to believe in any belief or virtue related to theism. For people adhering to this title, opinions, and rituals are mostly subjective.
Theology after the emergence of post-modernism
Postmodern theology began to commence in the late ’90s basically. Before that, in certain communities, it was a widely discussed idea (despite not being widely accepted).
Post-modernism is basically divided into two major subsidiaries.
I. Radical orthodoxy
ii. weak theology
I. Radical orthodoxy:- Radical orthodoxy promotes the idea of agnosticism which claims that there could or could not be a supreme God out there but no human can decide which one is it. In a bizarre and ludicrous way, it both embraces and defies the existence of a God in this universe.
II. Weak theology
Weak theology rejects the idea of the existence of any divine supreme being all together and strictly perpetuates the concept of “man” taking charge of the entire account of the planet.
Causes and events leading to postmodernism
While Postmodernism is considered more a responsive solution or strategy plotted against modernism after it receiving massive critique.
The concept of Modernism was generally based on resilience and an abstract perception of the existence of the human race and its respective civilizations. Postmodernism came into existence when these strongly claimed and accepted reasons were held accountable for their transparency.
Religion and secularism
Religion and secularism are entirely opposite to each other. Both reject each other’s claims, concepts, rituals, and propagations. However, in any non-conservative society, the individuals despite not agreeing with each other cannot and should not force their opinions on anyone. Free will should be the way to go and “Live and let live” should be the principle that has to be followed.
Some notable and acclaimed states that possess a secular constitution are Turkey, Mexico, France, the USA, etc.
Seeker-sensitive churches and postmodernism
The seeker-sensitive churches are an entire network of churches found in the USA. These churches have a very diversified concept of theism which they perpetuate in the light of Science and deep analysis of the mutual relationship between Science and religion. These churches also promote trendy and mainstream pop music techniques and styles. There have been a number of conspiracy theories associated with these churches too that how they create and communicate via music with encrypted messages.
Some communities that acclaim and acknowledge postmodernism like to associate themselves with the seeker-sensitive churches as well since a lot of the concepts taught at these churches are linked to agnosticism. In fact, their certain theories combine the agnostic approach with metaphysics and Science in an eerie and uncanny way. Due to this postmodernity preaches some concepts propagated by these churches.
Most acclaimed religion in 2050?
As per the surveys conducted by proficient and professional analysts, a conclusion was reached in 2012 that by the year 2050 the most widespread and widely acknowledged religion of the world would be Christianity. The religion succeeding in it in the number of followers would be Islam.
A rough estimate claims that by that time the number of Christians in the world would be 2.9 billion while Muslims would be 2.8 billion. Certain surveys also present the data that while these two religions would immensely strengthen by that time, However atheists and their communities would also grow and increase in number to a large extent by then. Many analysts also suggest that the concept of post-modernism would cease to exist by then and new terminologies supporting even vaster and more versatile concepts than postmodernism would be accepted by then.
However, secularism, further divisions of postmodernism and religion would always remain at a tug of war even till the end of times.Religious beliefs
